Active as soloist, recitalist and chamber music player, Israeli violinist Guy Figer is a winner of national and international awards. Among his awards are two first prizes at the Paul Ben Haim competition, in violin and chamber music, the Thomastik Infeld Prize of the Prague / Vienna / Budapest summer academy and scholarships from the America Israel Foundation. He was also a finalist in the “Vittorio Gui” chamber music competition in Florence, Italy. Figer has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Israel and abroad and has been broadcast on Israeli radio, Vienna Radio, on WFMT Chicago and on WQXR New York. He often performs in Europe, North America and his native Israel. His collaborations include “Chamber Players International” NY, with whom he recently performed concerti by Vivaldi and Bach, and a core member position of the “Con Vivo” music group in NJ, among many others. As a former member of the Carmel Quartet he was working with the famous Alban Berg Quartet at the Hochschule fur muzik in Cologne, Germany. Since 2005 Guy is a member of the Figer-Khanina Duo, together with pianist Anna Khanina. The Duo’s debut CD will be released by the end of 2011.
Mr. Figer has a rich orchestral experience which includes principal positions in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Maestro Daniel Barenboim, the Tel-Aviv Soloists, the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, The NY Asian Symphony Orchestra and the ISymphonietti01 in Switzerland, as well as Concertmaster positions with the IDF Chamber Orchestra, Guest Concertmaster with the Young Israel Philharmonic, the Chicago College of Performing Arts Symphony and the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra. Since moving to New York City Figer has been playing with some of the city's finest groups such as the Arcos chamber orchestra, SONYC - the String Orchestra of New York City, Ossia, and St. Lukes orchestra.
Mr. Figer holds a M.M degree from the Chicago College of Performing arts, a B.M degree from the Tel-Aviv music academy and is about to complete his Doctorate of Music degree at Rutgers University. He started his musical education at the age of seven at the Givataim Conservatory. Among his teachers are Arnold Steinhardt, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Hagai Shaham and Irina Svetlova.
